Level 3
Bright Red Socks
for SATB a cappella Choir
“Bright Red Socks” is the story of a romance between two young people on different sides of a violent political issue, not due to personal ideology but to place of birth. It’s a story about artificial borders. The piece is based on an even eighth note feel (rather than swing) and its challenges include stubborn scat syllables in the introduction and a frequently syncopated solo soprano line. The final section overlays the chorus, the pre-chorus, and one last verse to feature brief moments of dissonance in pitch and chaos in words struggling to be heard.
