Time at NYSSMA Conference A Success
On December second and third of 2005, Imagine Music presented its
most recently published works at the New York State School Music Association
Conference in Rochester, NY. Over 500 vendors were present for the
weekend.
Over the two days, music educators had the opportunity to attend a
variety of music oriented conferences, and between the workshops, student
performances, lectures, and luncheons, perused the most current music oriented
services available to them, including the services and music of Imagine Music
(see photo of event, upper left). Over 3000 people (educators, musicians,
parents of music students, and so forth) were in attendance at the Rochester
Convention Center.
Imagine Music also sponsored one of the workshops offered at
Educator's Corner
Don't be afraid to use space as a teaching tool. Students,
just like teachers, can get into a rut, especially in the concert band/ string
ensemble/ choir rehearsal setting. So go ahead and give them a wake up
call...
One option is to simply switch seats--Tubas in front, flutes in
the back. Arrange them according to height, or birthday months.
Better still, get them out of the band room. Use the auditorium for a day,
and wrap around the entire room. Your students will be amazed at the
difference in sound...You'll be amazed at how much they learn about intonation
and balance in one practice.

the NYSSMA Conference, "Taking It Outside." Educators
from Le Roy and Greater Johnstown High School presented the topic, explaining
the various aspects of how a director might begin an outdoor program, be it a
pep band, parade, field band, or a variety of outdoor needs.
Educators left with a solid foundation of ideas, and were also
given a contact list to get started, should they need additional resources
outside their own program. The book Taking It
Outside was also offered to those in attendance, and is available for
purchase for anyone interested in the topic.
Overall, the Conference was a successful venture. Many of the
Imagine Music composers were pleased with the exposure, and
educators found the company to be an affordable resource, not only
for high quality music, but for their commission and curriculum needs.
